This 120-year-old mansion or Walauwwa (the traditional name for mansion owned by the aristocratic families of old Ceylon) is nestled in a corner of China Fort in an area called “Karandangoda”, and offers the best view of the sprawling plantation is the area.

The original Walauwwa had only 2 rooms, a portico, a sitting and kitchen with a large Back Garden, Subsequently, two extensions on built on either side of the original Walauwwa. The extensions allowed for 3 more rooms, a pantry and a kitchen on one side and a large sitting hall and portico on the other.

An extra large verandah was added at the rear of the house, overlooking the plantations, and provided for relaxation and a lovely entertainment area.

More recently, further renovations on the Walauwwa, allowed for some detailed changes to the interiors and rooms. A swimming pool was added and the entire house was re-furnished with Dutch and Singhalese period furniture.

While retaining the original Walauwwa style atmosphere of the property, the entire villa was modernized with new fittings and fixtures. Modern amenities like hot water, air-conditioning, WiFi, and a well equipped kitchen were added.

The Large Verandah at the backyard was redesigned by introducing Dutch Period Columns and Titanium Cement Flooring, giving the place a feeling of coolness and a sense of relaxed tranquility.
